Nowadays, after Sigmund Freund and C.G.Jung, it is up to the dream to open a port to the afterworld.
The soul manifests itself in a mysterious way as it transcends the mirror. Comparable with the strong bow in the film Orphée by Jean Cocteau, it is overcome by melting into water, when the truth seeker sets out on his venture with outstretched arms and magic gloves (the string).

The ancient archer directed his arrows into space, into the air, into the invisible, into black. It was a pursuit of knowledge at the border of life and death. Odysseus' ordeal, finally, consisted of piercing twelve axes in one shot, even if they would measure one meter high.-

With the invention of firearms, then, the image of the archer loses its metaphorical significance. The shot is much less a quest of seeking out borders, than a destruction of that which is suspected beyond them.

Stargate does not show Cocteau's water gate as a mirror. The warrior armed with precision rockets is instantaneously beamed through this shimmering border into 'enemy' territory.
